Northwich Welsh Society

Posted by Trinity Mirror Cheshire on December 4, 2009 8:12 AM

At the November meeeting members of the Welsh Society thoroughly enjoyed a most interesting talk by Janet Evans on working with children at the RSPB Centre, Lake Vyrnwy in Mid Wales.

Sprinkled with humour and pathos, she spoke about how, as a farmer's wife and former teacher she was recruited by the RSPB, and, subsequently, combined her love of care for the enviroment, and passed on that enthusiasm to visiting parties. especially children from schools in the industrial midlands. Certificates were issued to children who helped with lambing and the milking of goats. Many didn't realise that milk in bottles from the supermarket came from animals. Highlighted also was the two way traffic of gaining the trust of birds and animals. Children even saw robins eat from a hand. She was thanked by the Society's treasurer, Joan Lewis, Castle.

Members will visit the RSPB Centre in the Summer.

On Saturday evening December 12th at a Christmas Concert arranged by the Town Mayor in Witton Church, a Welsh Society member will read a seasonal poem by a former Poet Laureate, then on Monday evening December 14th, the Society will join the members of the Castle Methodist and URC members at the annual Carol Service. A Carol and a Lesson will be in Welsh.

Northwich Welsh Society

The new season got underway in October with the customary quiz. The quizmaster was the former chairman Anthony Masson, who presented his programme in three sections - photgraphs, commercial motifs, and general knowledge. Members were certainly put to a severe test, but an occasional banter helped to make it a fun evening, a most enjoyable one. The winners were Oggie's Quartet.

At the next meeting on Monday 16th November at 7.30pm in the Castle Methodist Schoolroom, Janet Evans from the RSPB will give an audio visual presentation on Working with children at the RSPB Lake Vyrnwy.

In December, members will again join forces with the Methodists and URC for their joint Carol Service.

Anger is a chocolate biscuit

Posted by Kingsley Road Kid on September 30, 2009 3:21 PM

Anger is a chocolate biscuit.
The people, who designed packaging on biscuits, must have twisted minds, or delight in seeing the frustration they have caused to millions of ordinary people, who suddenly develop packaging rage. You finally get them open, and your body aches, and the sweat is pouring off you. No matter how careful you are, the top four biscuits are always broken, then the anger starts again, and you want to write a long letter of complaint to the manufacturer.
Instead of it being a relaxing or even romantic moment, a shared cup of strong tea and a biscuit.
Perhaps anger management courses should be offered with each packet of biscuits.
I wonder how many people have died angry, all because of a packet of chocolate biscuits.
