Good attendances at meetings have given the New Year's programme of activities an encouraging start.
In January even though the scheduled speaker was in hospital, members had an enjoyable evening when each person had to draw a topic from a hat, and speak on that theme. It was nostalgic for many, shades of the old penny readings which were popular in chapel youth clubs years ago. It was also a way of encouraging people to speak before an audience. The topics were varied and members of the Society were invited to make comments after each speaker. Subjects included:- If I was President of the USA; The book I'm reading; my hobby; If I was the Prime Minister; My town; When I was a child.. etc.
At the February meeting, member Christine Masson of Knutsford gave a visual aid presentation on her visit to Peru, highlighting the country's spectacular landscape with its high mountains and narrow steep valleys; colourful festivals and ancient buildings. She also touched on the life of the Incas and the modern way of life in that fascinating country on the Pacific coast of South America.
It was a most enjoyable evening, and the talk left one with a desire to read more about the country. The speaker was thanked by the Society's vice chairman Gwili Lewis.
This year's St David's Day celebration lunch will be at the Middlewich Masonic Hall on Sunday March 1st. 1pm for 1.30pm.
