Local History Detective

Posted by Kingsley Road Kid on September 19, 2009 11:44 AM |

Over the last six years of researching and writing local history,
I have met and recorded many wonderful local people, including Alzheimer suffers and heart attack victims, in some cases it has given them a new lease of life and much needed companionship,
Some of the people I have worked with have taken up writing for the first time, or even research their own memories now.

I have received many requests for help from people from all over the world, and all walks of life, including helping to reunite three local evacuees after sixty- five years.
A year or so later, I received a letter from a young lady from the midlands for information on a former Runcorn FC player,
Who turned out to be the real father of her dad who was suffering from a rare blood disorder, the information I found out for her helped her through a very difficult time.

I received another letter from a family in Dorset.
The father wrote to me because his son was having a hard time at school and he was trying to get him interested in sport.
The little boy soon took up Rugby in a big way, especially after he discovered his granddad had once played for Runcorn and England.
I was able to send him the whole story, including a rare photo.
He was so thrilled to find out that his granddad had played professionally and is every bit as determined to follow in his footsteps.

My latest request of help is to find out about a former landlord of the Norton Arms pub, his name was Hiam Gilleland.
