Northwich Welsh Society

Posted by Trinity Mirror Cheshire on December 4, 2009 8:12 AM |

At the November meeeting members of the Welsh Society thoroughly enjoyed a most interesting talk by Janet Evans on working with children at the RSPB Centre, Lake Vyrnwy in Mid Wales.

Sprinkled with humour and pathos, she spoke about how, as a farmer's wife and former teacher she was recruited by the RSPB, and, subsequently, combined her love of care for the enviroment, and passed on that enthusiasm to visiting parties. especially children from schools in the industrial midlands. Certificates were issued to children who helped with lambing and the milking of goats. Many didn't realise that milk in bottles from the supermarket came from animals. Highlighted also was the two way traffic of gaining the trust of birds and animals. Children even saw robins eat from a hand. She was thanked by the Society's treasurer, Joan Lewis, Castle.

Members will visit the RSPB Centre in the Summer.

On Saturday evening December 12th at a Christmas Concert arranged by the Town Mayor in Witton Church, a Welsh Society member will read a seasonal poem by a former Poet Laureate, then on Monday evening December 14th, the Society will join the members of the Castle Methodist and URC members at the annual Carol Service. A Carol and a Lesson will be in Welsh.
